About Michelle
That's me and Lucy! She is the dog that started me on the path to hearing that question over and over: "You're quitting your fulltime design job to go paint, dogs? Um...yeah...ok. Er, good luck, sounds totally stable. You have kids, right?"
But yes, really! I have quit my job to paint pets fulltime! It is a dream come true! One day I painted a portrait of Miss Lucy for my kids. That darn painting just made me smile like an idiot, so I kept painting more and more for whomever I knew had a dog. My two kids were loving it and I was having more fun than I have had in a really long time with my artwork.
Then a friend suggested I rent a booth at an art show. In October 2002, I was in the Candler Park Fallfest and the rest is in the process of becoming history! My phone has been ringing and my work apparently resonates with other pet owners. People are commissioning me to paint their pets and friend's pets, for their home, their kids rooms and baby nurseries (which I think delights me the very most!). I have painted almost 350 commissioned portraits in the past three years! Let me show you how your pet looks through my eyes!
I feel so increadibly lucky and just jumped into this with both feet. I have been greatly rewarded for doing so! I am a risk taker at heart and I love creating art that makes people smile. Since beginning this 4 years ago now (wow!!) I have begun visiting schools, written and illustrated a children's book, have been commissioned for children's murals and been a featured artists in various magazines, newspapers and websites. This just keeps growing and growing and I can't help but feel it is because I decided to follow my heart and create art that makes people happy. I think the reason I do this most of all though, is to continue to show my children that this life is truly what we make it. |
